United Way

Celebrate Love

United Way partners with local organizations through chapters in cities near you to meet their community’s needs. Areas of focus include Covid, education, and promoting a balanced and quality life by connecting those in need of services with the resources they need.

You can find your closest chapter here:

In 2015, United Way founded its Center to Combat Human Trafficking. May 10th is Empowering Human Trafficking Survivors Day. The goal of the center is to network and build support for community-based solutions and services to prevent and stop human trafficking. UPS is partnering with United Way both through the philanthropic giving of nearly $5 million in funds raised by UPS and THE UPS Foundation, but also through a Brakes on Trafficking Steering Committee. UPS will also be training drivers to recognize the signs of trafficking to empower them while they’re on the roads and delivering packages! #MyFreedomDay

If you’re unfamiliar with the work of United Way, I encourage you to look into some of the initiatives taking place within your own local chapter. One way United Way helps families is with a volunteer income tax assistance program, which ensures all tax credits are utilized during tax preparations. United Way is advocating for Congress to support the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), and you can confirm your support for this program here:

United Way volunteers are working in areas lacking the infrastructure to support online grocery store orders. They are facilitating deliveries for individuals with health conditions. The Innovation Study contains a wealth of content on the work being done on behalf of qualifying recipients.

This year the Women’s Leadership Council officially named the annual Impact event “Celebrate to Elevate: United to Lift Each Other and Our Community”. This annual event raises funds to address the needs of our broader Pittsburgh community, like financial instability, and education vulnerabilities, and promotes options for success for youth of all ages. I am a Women’s Leadership Council member and I served on the event host committee. A painting I created live at the event was sold at auction, and my handmade brooches were also available and were seen throughout the room in support of the work of United WAy. The event was once again a success with members and guests turning out to celebrate and support our community.
